Things To Do

The Hideout at Buck Island has something for everyone in the family.  Those who love to be on the water can enjoy fishing, kayaking, boating, skiing, or wake sports on the lake.  The golfers in the family can be on the highly acclaimed Gunter’s Landing course in a matter of minutes.  Other courses are a short distance away at Guntersville State Park, Willowbrook Golf Course in Albertville, or Robert Trent Jones Golf Club at Hampton Cove.   The thrill seekers can go ziplining at Guntersville State Park or on a cave tour at Cathedral Caverns.  Those who want to be close to nature, but not on the lake, can go for a hike at one of the many county or state parks in the area, including many with waterfall trails.

On days when the weather prevents outdoor activity, or for those who need a break from the outdoors, there are a number of indoor attractions such as the Guntersville Museum, and the US Space and Rocket Center and Museum.  There are several wineries in the area including Harbor View in Guntersville, Joe Vineyard Farm in Albertville, and Jules J. Berta Vineyard in Albertville.  There are several spas just minutes away in Guntersville including the Soap House & Soakery, Southern Comforts Salon and Spa, and Janz Salon Spa.  Be sure to take some time to relax and enjoy the view of the lake from the screened in porch, back deck, or waterside firepit.


There are a number of casual and fine dining restaurants within 5 to 20 minutes in Guntersville, Albertville, and Scottsboro.  City Harbor is opening in the Spring of 2022 and will offer dining and entertainment as an upscale family destination directly on the water near historic downtown Guntersville, just minutes from The Hideout.

Gunter’s Landing Golf Course operates as a semi-private club taking tee times Tuesday – Sunday, 1.1 miles east of The Hideout.  The Steven DeBoer Golf Academy can handle all of your golfing needs from equipment to digital video instruction. A full scale practice facility offering range putting green, chipping green and sand bunker allows golfers to hone their skills before and after their rounds.


City Harbor at Lake Guntersville will offer an upscale family experience in an unbeatable location, 3 miles south of The Hideout. This unique attraction, planned to open Spring 2022, will provide entertainment and restaurants on the shore of scenic lake Guntersville.


Guntersville Museum is 4.2 miles from The Hideout and houses hundreds of objects and exhibits associated with the 68,000 acres of water and 10,000 years of history of Guntersville and the surrounding area.


Jules J Berta Vineyards is 16 miles from The Hideout.


Hambrick Hollow Cave is accessible only by boat and is a popular attraction for locals during the summer months when 30,000 gray bats emerge at dusk. It is located one mile upstream of Guntersville Dam. Sauta Cave, accessible by land, is managed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and is also a popular place to watch bats emerge to feed. TVA has a 112- acre habitat protection area surrounding this cave.


Cathedral Caverns State Park is a publicly owned recreation area and natural history preserve located in 16 miles north of The Hideout. The park’s main feature, first known as Bats Cave, was developed as a tourist attraction in the 1950s. Cathedral Caverns was declared a National Natural Landmark in 1972 and opened as a state park in 2000.

 Lake Guntersville State Park, 13 miles from The Hideout, rests along the banks of the Tennessee River in Northeast Alabama. Recreational offerings within the 6,000 acres of natural woodlands includes an 18-hole championship golf course, the Screaming Eagle Zipline, a beach complex, an outdoor nature center, excellent fishing in Alabama’s largest lake, 36 miles of hiking and biking trails, weekly guided hikes, and a day-use area.


Buck’s Pocket State Park is 27 miles from The Hideout and provides campsites and an Off Road Vehicle (ORV) Trail.


High Falls Park is 28 miles from The Hideout.  A marvel of nature hidden in the mountains of northeast Alabama, the park offers walking bridge, hiking trails, pavilions, restrooms, and rustic playground.


Weathington Park Overlook is 31 miles from The Hideout, at 6230 Tammy Little Dr, Section, AL 35771.


DeSoto State Park is 56 miles from The Hideout.  Continuing in the rustic tradition of the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), mountainous Desoto State Park is nestled atop beautiful Lookout Mountain in scenic Northeast Alabama and accented by many rushing waterfalls and fragrant wildflowers that will simply take your breath away.


Little River Canyon Nature Preserve is 55 miles from The Hideout.  Forested uplands, waterfalls, canyon rims and bluffs, pools, boulders, and sandstone cliffs offer settings for a variety of recreational activities.
